I have recently stumbled accross a powerful little traffic building strategy and thought I’d come share it with you guy’s. It has become a very helpful tool in my traffic building strategies and best of all it’s free!

I knew about Yahoo and Google Groups for a long time but never really understood how much they are used by members of the proxy-seeking community. They essentially provide a sturdy service from which to supply a proxy newsletter. It is obviously very useful to be able to get the freshest proxies to your inbox daily. We’re talking the one’s that might even slip under the radar of even the best filtering software.

So below I share with you a recently compiled list of some of the best fresh proxy mailing lists that I’ve found. You may need to create an account for each service but it is a very quick and relatively painless process. Included with some are brackets with the rough amount of members that had joined each at the time of compilation.

I have just updated the Proxy Builder proxy topsite list, I have a wide variety of traffic building tools for my proxy websites but well maintained topsites can drive in traffic and build pagerank. Many proxy webmasters believe that topsites are only beneficial to their owners, unfortunately in any field there will be people who abuse your trust.

Topsites can be a traffic building powerful tool to webmasters but you have to be able to spot bad apples or you may even hurt the site you are promoting. I have compiled a list of points that may help you in spotting a poorly performing topsite.

• Pop-ups: This usually means the owner has devalued the site, they turn off visitors and can pop up “harmful” adverts.
• Lots of self promotion: Many outbound links to personal websites or sites on unrelated topics can devalue the link to your website.
• You should also watch out for turkish link spam. Many automatic verification topsites become overrun by these malicious spammers. It shows little concern by the owner.
• Poor quality layouts and default images. “Aarvark Topsites PHP” is popular topsite software run on many proxy listing sites on the web. If many of the topsite buttons on your proxy are almost identical you may may turn your layout into an unsightly mess.

These may be general knowledge but its good to set out the basics for even the newest proxy webmasters. I have checked all topsites included in our list and at the time of writing are all to my personal standards. I use many of these topsites on my own proxies and see the benefit on both sides.

I find interlinking my web proxies to be one of the best promotion techniques around. After I have finished creating a new proxy site I usually follow the simple steps below to give it a jump-start in traffic. I have found some great benefits from building my proxy sites in this manner although you may find better methods by experimenting.

Get More Pagerank
Due to the nature of proxy sites it can be hard to get free links from places like web directories and few main stream sites will give you reciprocal links. If you provide high quality web proxies they should grow themselves and by interlinking different proxy websites you eventually get a nice web of pagerank to play with.

Build Extra Traffic
You should always be aiming to increase and retain traffic to your proxy websites. Traffic means money and you should want to get the most out of your visitors. You’ve got a certain amount of space to fill on your page, half of its probably bare so why not give your other web proxies some love and push those ugly topsite buttons down too!

Increase Web Exposure
Every proxy webmaster should be fighting to make the most of their visitors, if you are sending them to another of your web proxies you get another chance to make money. Proxy sites regularly get blocked and people in the same environment tend to share new sites. Your visitor might just decide to spread your new proxy URL around a college, school, university, etc.

I have had many turbulent times in the proxy business, times where I’ve lost interest and times when my websites have been left on autopilot it for months. It can be hard to find the motivation but I have found that building high quality proxy websites makes them withstand the test of time, whatever I’m doing!

Heres some key elements that can be added on your proxy websites to build extra traffic, you may find only adding certain elements works best for you. There are a variety of factors in running a successful proxy website, if you are simply providing slow service or you have a dismal template then you are already at a disadvantage.

Unique Content
I find the most important element to making a high quality proxy website is unique content. You should at least take the time out to write a short paragraph on what your proxy service offers. If you really want to increase search engine positioning then build up a bit more content including your targeted keywords.

Quick Links
It can be a good idea to add “quick links” to your website, visitors can find it useful to quickly visit proxied pages for popular websites. Some websites you may like to include are Google, Myspace, Yahoo, Facebook, Bebo, Digg, Fark but make sure your web proxy is compatible with them.

Proxy Topsite Buttons
I personally have found proxy topsites a useful tool in overall success. They can offer targeted inbound link titles while ranking for lots of high traffic and long-tail keywords. If you get on the front page you can benefit from a bit of extra traffic on good topsites. I am of course biased because I run three of my own: Proxy Topsite, Web Proxies and Elite Proxies Just remember over time some may need to be removed if they go offline, I’m happy to say mine have been running smoothly for 8 months.

Proxy Network Links
If you have any other proxy websites you may wish to create a variety of 2-way and 3-way link exchanges between each of your proxy sites. This can be an effective way of increasing visitors and users may even begin using a different web proxy as others are blocked.

Topsites have been around for almost as long as the internet itself, they rank websites in a variety of ways but ultimately the most high traffic websites should make their way to the top. I run several myself so I know they can rank well for both popular and longtail keyword searches. All of my topsites receive over 1k uniques a day, mainly from search engines. Of course, not every proxy topsite provides the same level of quality or traffic so which topsites are worth submitting to?

Look out for the following:

• Poorly maintained lists. Topsites are an easy target for link spammers and if you are linking to a spammy site, your website may suffer some consequences in the search engines.
• Biased topsite owners who regularly list their own web proxies and remove rival listings.
• Default topsite buttons or multiple topsites with near identical buttons usually mean very little effort has been put into the website.
• If alot of ranked websites use iframes or other unfair methods then inbound PageRank to the topsite can be lost. Subsequently there is less outbound PageRank to share between the other links and everyone loses.

Now you know how to spot the bad Topsites we can move on. When submitting to topsites by hand, I personally create 2-3 descriptions for each site and different titles for every submission. Alternating the descriptions and titles should give you a better ranking for a variety of keywords in the search engines.

Speed is key. You want your page to load as quickly as possible so all the topsite buttons load and you get an extra visitor counted on the topsite. You will rarely find more than 20 buttons on any of my proxy websites. Besides that, who really wants to look at 100 topsite buttons loading? I sure dont and I instantly delete any websites like that as I manually review them on my own proxy topsites.
