After browsing through many of the webmaster forums I frequent, I have come to the conclusion that hosting is one of the biggest obstacles new-comers face when entering the market. I regularly see many people complaining that hosts shut them down, sometimes with little to no warning.

There are many web hosts who are simply used to hosting static content, which is easier to facilitate and less resource intensive on their servers. Since web hosting is such a lucrative business, it has become a very low-margin game for some operators. If you are draining the resources away from 1,000 other accounts on a dedicated server then it simply isnt fair on the other users.

Every legitimate hosting business usually has a sort of terms & conditions over its usage. If you’re like myself, it can be very easy to simply accept the terms & conditions without really understanding the limitations they impose. The real kicker will always be their included clause, “We reserve the right to close your account at any time.”, or variation thereof.

Increasly though there has been a much needed influx of dedicated web hosts. There are now several companies that are starting to fill the very turbulent and hard to manage proxy hosting business. I thought I would bring you the three, as I’ve seen, most respected proxy hosts around. I’m sure there are many more around and please leave your own recommendations for proxy hosters in the comments.

Cloak Host
WD Servers
Tech Entrance

These companies offer a very comprehensive list of proxy hosting plans and should be enable you to grow capacity as fast as possible.

Over the last few days I have begun updating the Adsense ads across my entire proxy network to the new format. Well, I say new, but as I’m sure you’re all aware of the changes that were put in place about two months ago. You can now manage all aspects of the advert just by logging into Adsense and I’m going to break down the three advantages I see for all publishers.

The first benefit I saw in using the new ads was the slight drop in the amount of on-page code. If you’re using 3 ad units per page, which seemed to be the average for my own sites, you’ll see about a 500 byte drop in the filesize. This is going to help speed up load times for end users and reduce the amount of javascript having to processed from your website. In the age of superfast connections it might not have an impact for some, but remember there is still a large chunk of <56k users on the net.

I’m not 100% sure on this, but I do believe the “Show non-Google ads from another URL ” feature was included within the Adsense javascript that was placed on your site. It is now alot simpler to manage alternative advertisers from your Adsense control panel instead of having to go back through each site when you want to change or add an alternate monetization source.

My number one favourite feature of this change is the color palette management. I used very few palettes before but now I see this as a viable method to keep my visitors from getting ad blindness. Ad blindess tends to happen with regular users who subconsciously skip past or avoid the ad units altogether. By having numerous color schemes across my website adverts, I hope to draw more attention back and subsequently achieve more revenue.

I’m sure theres plenty of other reasons that slipped my mind, but I am already seeing the rewards for changing all my ads to the more centralized system. It is already a mandatory requirement for creating new ad units and I can see Adsense reigning it in for webmasters alot more in future.

As I’m sure many of you’ve seen I’ve been out of the game for a while, mainly treating myself to some long overdue leisure time. I still own all my original portfolio which puts me in good standing to begin work.

I have seen a large decline in traffic which is to be expected with all my poorly maintained sites. So far I’ve gone over all my web proxies and given them a much needed refresh. Since last week I’ve removed all unreciprocated links, added more revenue sources and done a general tidy-up. I’m already seeing traffic and revenue rise again so it looks like I’ve still got it :)

Looking forward I hope to develop the numerous half-finished projects I was working on. I’ve accumulated a vast array of un-used proxy domains and I’ve come to a point where I hope to develop this into my main job. I’ve worked the 9-5 for a few months and I just wish I had the virtue before this break to continue building my proxy business.

I’ll keep you guys posted on my endeavours and hope to hear more feedback!

I briefly covered the importance of a robots.txt file in my recent article: 5 Tips for Proxy Webmasters. There has been alot of discussion about this over at the proxy.org forums and most people have come to the conclusion it is an essential part of building a quality proxy website.

A correctly configured robots.txt tells search engine spiders where they can go on your website, if you dont stop spiders from accessing your proxy script then you could damage your website search engine rankings and trust. Search engines can be a vital source of organic traffic to proxy websites, if you dont block spiders from visiting proxied pages your site could get penalized Continue reading »

Hello Again, unfortunately I havent had much time to post recently because Im working on other projects. This brings me to my latest release, I managed to get some quality domains and unique templates so I began building a new proxy site network. I hope this gives you a feel for the quality of websites I like to create. Each one has been developed individually, interlinked and the proxies will be advertised independently. I will give a brief breakdown of how I acquired and developed each one.

Zelune - http://www.zelune.info

This one is probably the flagship in this small network because of the new Zelune proxy script. I purchased the domain and template via the Digital Point Forums. I acquired the domain for a bargain price but it was definitely worth buying a unique template too. I see alot of potential and a long future for this web proxy.

Myspace PHProxy - http://www.myspacephproxy.com

I picked up this domain after spotting some search engine keywords in the referrals on another proxy, I checked them out at the Free Keyword Tracker and saw there was enough searches to make it worth my time. The final step was snapping up the domain for $6.99!

IP Disguise - http://www.ipdisguise.com

The story behind this is much the same as Myspace PHProxy but I also acquired another unique template, it should be noted I also registered the domain disguiseip.com which will shortly redirect to it. It can be useful to buy similiar domains or they could potentially beat you in the search engine rankings.

Internet Cloak - http://www.internetcloak.com

Internet Cloak has been online for about a month now, it was originally using the Myspace PHProxy template but I thought for such a quality domain it deserved its own unique design. I have also tied in one inbound link to the new network to start the flood.

Thats all for now guys, I hope some of you pull some information out of there, I certainly know theres a few powerful development strategies in there. I have to move them forward with the promotion stage now but I’ll try and keep you updated. I also plan to release several of the unique templates via the Proxy Builder Blog so check back soon!
